Nostalgia for Aran mittens

11659244_1626685914283423_712345358269963779_nThe other morning I was travelling through Dublin Airport on my way to Bristol when I had a look through the store which was selling Irish sweaters and knitted goods.  I noticed that all of the items on sale were beautiful but, of course, machine made.  It reminded me of a time when I was a child and my mother bought me a wonderful pair of hand knitted Aran mittens and a matching hat in the same airport.  They really were gorgeous and so I decided to have a go knitting my own.  I’ve made a good start but I have to get as far as I can during my few days here as knitting needles aren’t permitted onto the plane for the return journey.  Better get on with it…
